The听Field Education Fact Sheet explains the requirements for supervision, hours, and schedule, as well as the support and services offered to supervisors for their efforts.

Placement Availability Form

The听Placement Availability Form enables us to get a picture of your agency and its services. If your agency becomes affiliated with our school, this information will be posted on a database of agencies so that students can familiarize themselves with the opportunities available to them.

Field Supervisors

Field supervisors become mentors in this apprenticeship model of education. Field supervisors are primarily responsible for developing a field educational plan and providing ongoing supervision and consultation to the student. They are also charged with orienting the student to the profession of social work and to the context in which their agency provides services.

Responsibilities of the Field Supervisor include the following:

  • Provide regularly scheduled, weekly supervision
  • Work with the student to meet Field Education requirements, such as the learning contract, process recordings, etc.
  • Provide an appropriate variety and number of assignments
  • Complete a written evaluation at the end of each semester
  • Consult with the BCSSW Field Advisor as needed, and meet with them at least once a听semester to assess student performance听

Supervisor Training and Support

Seminar in Field Instruction

Field Supervisors, especially new ones, are invited to participate in our Seminar in Field Instruction (SIFI). The seminar is offered free of charge to supervisors with students in the current academic year and provides 16 CEUs after successful completion. It meets eight times over the course of the academic year: five in the fall semester and three in the spring semester. The seminar combines a didactic presentation with group discussion
